Avocado (Pits + Skins)

This dye is an irregular faded pink color achieved by using the skins and pits of discarded avocados, marking our first foray into the world of food waste dyes, but certainly not our last.  We partnered with Phoenix restaurant Valentine to collect the remnants of the avocados used in their dishes and develop a rich dye. The pits and skins of avocados are loaded with tannins which create an unexpected but beautiful pink color on fabric.  As we work to minimize, and most efficiently utilize the waste we do make; food waste dyes are the perfect middle step between eating and composting.

Featuring a breathable linen/lyocell blend and long sleeves for coverage, this is the perfect shirt for year-round gardening activities. Lyocell is a semi-synthetic form of rayon composed primarily of cellulose derived from wood. The buttons are made from the corozo nut (or tagua nut), which is the seed of a tropical palm known scientifically as the phytelephas macrocarpas found throughout Northern South America and parts of Panama.
