Dr. Shelby Ramirez

DACM MSOM L.Ac.
Head Acupuncturist, Owner

From a young age Shelby has fostered a romanticized vision of a world where every individual effortlessly navigated life in alignment with their truest path. This idealized concept held within it the promise of achieving internal balance, true happiness, and even global harmony—an idea that Shelby found incredibly appealing.

Deeply ingrained in Shelby's core is the belief that obstacles, whether physical, mental, or spiritual, could cause us deviations from our intended path or keeping us from reaching our full potential. It is from that place that Mount Sunny was created-working to remove these blockages, we can gain a clear and unobstructed view of our truest self and highest purpose.

Shelby has a deep appreciation for Traditional Chinese Medicine healing practices rooted in nature and the profound interconnectedness between humans and the natural world. To Shelby, these time-honored traditions held the promise of providing the necessary guidance and support to unlock the transformative power within and reconnect with their truest self.

Growing up scared of needles herself, Shelby offers a painless technique when providing acupuncture treatments with most patients being surprised at how little they feel the insertion.

Shelby Ramirez has earned her license and board certification in Acupuncture and Herbology from the Acupuncture Board of Arizona.

She received her Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine degree from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco, California, as well as a Master's of Science in Oriental Medicine degree from Dongguk University of Los Angeles, California where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and was honored with the leadership award.

Shelby also holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Arizona State University, is a certified 200-hour yoga instructor, and has completed courses in Reiki. Always having a passion for healing others and natural medicine, Shelby found her calling through her studies at ASU when introduced to Eastern Medicine.

  • ★★★★★

“Shelby is incredibly knowledgeable. We spoke for about 30 minutes before starting acupuncture so she could understand the reason for my visit, my lifestyle, and any underlying issues. After our discussion, we began the acupuncture session, and I immediately felt at ease, calm, and relaxed. Once the treatment was complete, Shelby and I talked about a plan for future care. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I left feeling amazing! I would highly recommend Mount Sunny and Shelby Ramirez.”

“I wish there were better words that could describe how much I love this place. Shelby is the kindest person I've ever met and instantly made me feel at ease. She has the softest touch and really knows the human body. I'm a lifer with her now!”

“I’ve been receiving treatment at Mount Sunny with Shelby for about a year now. After sustaining a knee injury I needed a way to cope with the pain and Shelby is the definition of a healer. A doctor of acupuncture, Shelby is empathetic and passionate for what she does. My constant knee pain is relieved for some time after treatments. I have personally tried an assortment of therapies all over Phoenix (prolotherapy, cryo) but have found the best relief with Shelby’s acupuncture sessions. Mount Sunny’s environment fosters healing and I always look forward to my sessions here. I love that Shelby treats with a holistic perspective and I’m so grateful to continue to receive her care.”

  • ★★★★★

“Has really helped me with back and neck issues. I’ve done acupuncture before, but the sessions with Shelby at Mount Sunny have been by far the most effective. Fixed back issue that wasn’t getting better even after several PT sessions and anti-inflammatories. Took about four sessions but it got resolved and hasn’t come back. Cannot recommend enough!”

  • ★★★★★

“Shelby made me feel extremely comfortable with her kindness and expertise. She listened carefully to my concerns and was very gentle throughout the treatment. I left Mount Sunny feeling more relaxed than I ever have in my life. The experience was completely painless, and my overall pain, tension, and anxiety were greatly reduced. I will definitely be returning. Thank you, Shelby!”

  • ★★★★★

“Shelby is always such a pleasure to be around. She is kind and efficient every time I visit her at Mount Sunny. Having been to many TCM clinics in LA, I was worried that moving to Phoenix would mean struggling to find a skilled acupuncture and cupping practitioner. Thankfully, I found Mount Sunny. The cupping massage is fantastic, and Shelby clearly knows her craft. With her extensive background and range of services, she even showed me a quick gua sha technique for some tension in my neck and jaw during my first visit. It's always a relaxing and pleasant experience whenever I go.”

  • ★★★★★

“Dr. Shelby has truly put so much thought and love into this space. Mount Sunny is an amazing place for healing. I’ve been going for a little over two years and always leave feeling lighter and more aligned. She's helped me with so much, from regulating my period to recovering from a low back injury, helping my body slow down and regulate, and improving my overall health.”

  • ★★★★★

“I had acupuncture and cupping with Shelby Ramirez, and the experience was unbelievable. After having two back surgeries (laminectomy and discectomy) in my 20s, I’ve battled nerve pain in my legs and feet. The cupping session really helped me relax, as I’m often tense from worrying about aggravating my nerve pain with certain movements. During the acupuncture, I could literally feel my muscles releasing and responding to the treatment. My nerve pain and range of motion improve with every session. I highly recommend it! After the treatment, I enjoyed one of their specialty drinks, which tasted amazing and gave me a burst of energy. I couldn’t resist picking up one of the Mount Sunny shirts, and it’s already the comfiest shirt I own. Needless to say, I love this place—definitely check it out!”

“I have been working with Julia for a few years now. I came in with chronic issues no specialist could ever figure out. After years of going to doctor after doctor I found Julia who truly changed my life and helped manage my symptoms. I would have tension headaches, numbness/tingling, pins and needles sensations in my hands, feet and face, irregular periods, gut issues, anxiety and much more. Session after session my symptoms improved and ever since have disappeared or have become much more manageable. From the very beginning Julia has listened to how I feel and made it her goal to get me feeling my best. She is the sweetest and most caring person. “I’m not typically a review writer but Julia deserves it. I started going for acupuncture around 34 weeks pregnant for nausea, and discomfort. Julia met me with such genuine compassion and care during my weekly visits, even during visits when I was quite nauseous and sick. Now postpartum, I’ve continued to go for postpartum care and Julia continues to anticipate needs and specific goals. She has even held my little guy during sessions. I feel so fortunate to have found her. This is actual wellness!”

  • ★★★★★

“If you are looking for an excellent acupuncture practitioner, it just doesn’t get better than Julia. I have been going to acupuncturists for years now for chronic pain, lymphatic issues, and general immunity benefits. She thinks outside of the box, listens to you and genuinely cares for her clients.”

  • ★★★★★

“After hand surgery that was meant to treat occasional severe pain, I was left instead with constant moderate pain. Following several unsuccessful visits to my doctor for relief, I decided to reach out to Julia. After several weeks of acupuncture treatments, my pain completely disappeared. A year later, it still hasn’t returned. ”

  • ★★★★★

“I’ve seen Julia for several years and what most impresses me about her is how she shows up. She is always prepared, not hurried, thoughtful about meeting you where you’re at and asks big and small questions to be able then to help get the right results. Oh and let’s talk about the right results. She takes great care in this as well. I highly recommend Julia and without reservation. ”
